2014 Beer, Mussel and Oyster Festivals

Beer and Mussel Festival, 8th-9th March at The Cornish Arms, St Merryn

Over the weekend of 8th and 9th March, celebrity sea food chef, Rick Stein and his ex wife and interior designer, Jill Stein, will host the third annual beer and mussel festival at The Cornish Arms in St Merryn near Padstow, Cornwall, where they are landlords. Over the weekend 28 Cornish and British beers and ciders will be on offer to compliment dishes such as Moules Marinière, La Mouclade and Mussels with beer with bacon. For those not so keen on sea food, one of Rick’s curry dishes from when he filmed his ‘India’ series will also be chosen.

Kicking off with beers served from 12pm and a cookery demonstration from son Jack, the weekend will include live music and a comedy programme to provide entertainment for adults and children alike. A marquee in the beer garden and beautifully designed interior of The Cornish Arms complete with log fire provide the backdrop. Free to enter, food will be from the festival menu only throughout the weekend. Already affiliated to the St Austell Brewery, the pub will serve such delights as Ruck & Roll, a dry cask conditioned amber coloured pale ale brewed specifically to celebrate the climax of the rugby season alongside Chough Brewery’s ‘Kynance’ – a crisp ale with a well rounded flavour. Ready to tickle your tastebuds are a list of ciders to accompany the beer and food menus; ranging from the medium honey coloured ‘Pickers Passion’ by artisan cider maker Hogan’s to Mr Whiteheads ‘Strawberry’.

Promising good all round entertainment, great food and a fantastic range of beers and ciders, the weekend programme culminates with a charity pub quiz and stand up comedy;
